Never Let Go. | Now what do I do?
05 February 2011 • 5:32 pm | Rigby, Idaho
Canon Rebel XS | 50MM | F/ 2.8 – 1/100 | ISO: 200 | EV: 0
This is was one of my favorite photos that was taken. Skyler just couldn’t think of anything to do but to hold onto Becky. I think that’s all he wanted to do but we had to tell him that we needed to do some different poses. I love the colors and overall composition of this photo. I ended up using this one for a custom Facebook Profile pic for them to use.
Editing:
This was a great shot and one of my favorites to edit! I removed a “non-smoking” sign and business hours from the window using the clone stamp. I darkened the window and then used blending modes and layers to paint a more vibrant color into the background and then reduced the opacity. Warmer skin tones with basic portrait enhancements. Brighter eyes and whiter teeth. Blemishes removed. Vignette added with sharpening filter.

Piggy Back Ride. | Should have brought snow shoes
05 February 2011 • 5:41 pm | Rigby, Idaho
Canon Rebel XS | 50MM | F/ 4.5 – 1/250 | ISO: 200 | EV: 0
This pose was completely unplanned but one that I couldn’t pass up as Skyler was trying to help Becky through some deep snow. They decided to smile for this shot when they realized that I was snappin’ away. This one turned about better than I thought, but they really like this one because it was so natural. Becky wasn’t sure at first but eventually decided that this one was “really cute.”
Editing:
There was a wood pole on the right side that was a major distraction in the photo and so I used the clone stamp once again to remove it. I also added a bit more blue into the sky using camera raw. Warmer skin tones with basic portrait enhancements. Brighter eyes and whiter teeth. Blemishes removed. Vignette added with sharpening filter.

Into the Sunset. | Look at me! Not the sun…
05 February 2011 • 6:15 pm | Menan, Idaho
Canon Rebel XS | 146MM | F/ 6.3 – 1/250 | ISO: 200 | EV: 0
Skyler had insisted that he wanted the sunset in these engagement photos and so we found a spot just off the side of the highway that had a nice little area to do down by the river. The sun was at the right level and Skyler finally had the background he wanted. These river side shots were a lot of fun to take and turned out pretty well.
Editing:
There wasn’t much done to this one. I lightened Skyler and Becky up a bit so that they would show up better and added some more yellow to the sunset to warm up the photo a bit using Camera Raw. Other than that, just another great kissing photo

River Side. | Only the river was too close for comfort…
05 February 2011 • 6:12 pm | Menan, Idaho
Canon Rebel XS | 50MM | F/ 6.3 – 1/500 | ISO: 200 | EV: 0
Becky was really nervous standing so close to the water like that. Apparently they were standing on ice and watched the water flow underneath it. Me, however, was standing far off with my zoom lens to get all of these shots we took of them by the river. 🙂
Editing:
This one took a little bit of work trying to get the lighting and effect just right. I didn’t want a silhouette of Skyler and Becky, but I wanted the sunset a bit darker so things didn’t seem so blown out. I added some “blacks” into it from Camera Raw and did a 70’s type effect to add another dimension to the photo. It turned out and it and is one of my favorites.

Eye to Eye. | We are only trading secrets…
05 February 2011 • 5:33 pm | Rigby, Idaho
Canon Rebel XS | 50MM | F/ 3.2 – 1/125 | ISO: 200 | EV: 0
Probably the best part about engagement shoots is when you get those shots that didn’t require posing or direction and they are just off in their own world glad to be together!
Editing:
The first thing Becky said when she saw this photo was that her skin was softer. I used a technique called Airbrushing in Camera Raw to soften her skin. Warmer skin tones with basic portrait enhancements. Brighter eyes and whiter teeth. Blemishes removed. Vignette added with sharpening filter. I added color to the background like I did with the first photo in this post.

And. Dip. | Are you sure you know what you’re doing?
05 February 2011 • 5:43 pm | Rigby, Idaho
Canon Rebel XS | 50MM | F/ 4.5 – 1/250 | ISO: 200 | EV: 0
This shot was a lot of fun. Not only for Skyler to learn really quick how to dip and get his footing but for them to play around in this pose. We got several shots along these lines but this was by far the most perfect moment.
Editing:
When we got there, things looked pretty plain, but with some post editing, this place came to life! The background needed a lot of work. I painted a more vibrant color onto the walls behind and used blending modes with a lower opacity to achieve the desired result. I used the clone stamp to remove several spots where there was dirty snow and dirt. Becky was wearing two different color shirts and I made them both the same color so that it wasn’t so distracting. I added a vignette and and sharpened the photo.

Silhouette. | Do you mind if I rest my head right here?
05 February 2011 • 6:15 pm | Menan, Idaho
Canon Rebel XS | 179MM | F/ 7.1 – 1/320 | ISO: 200 | EV: 0
This would be another classic shot that you see in a lot of places, but it was kind of a must with sunset as your background. I think it turned out well!
Editing:
The only thing I did to this photo was lower the exposure in Camera Raw using the adjustment brush on Skyler and Becky to create the silhouette effect and then I added more yellow to the sunset to warm the photo just a bit. Afterwards, I sharpened the photo and that’s it.

It’s all her. | And this is why they call it “Home Sweet Home”
05 February 2011 • 5:33 pm | Rigby, Idaho
Canon Rebel XS | 50MM | F/ 2.8 – 1/125 | ISO: 200 | EV: 0
Becky wasn’t entirely sure how she felt about this pose, but now that it’s been edited she is growing to love it more and more. But what’s important is that Skyler loves it!
Editing:
FIrst of all, I added that blue grey color into the background because it was really white and distracting from the photo. So I neutralized it. Warmer skin tones with basic portrait enhancements. Brighter eyes and whiter teeth. Blemishes removed. Airbrushing for softer skin. I darkened her eyebrows and libs with the dodge tool. Vignette added with sharpening filter.
