The Venetian – Las Vegas 2012
If ever you find yourself in Las Vegas but wish you were in Venice… then head on over to The Venetian! It’s an incredible place and probably one of my favorite Hotel/Casinos on the strip. Last year – I learned all about how the Venetian came to be. I woke up at 5am to head down to take these photos because there wouldn’t be a heard of people in my shots. Using the new Nikon D800 and a 14-24mm lens, I was finally able to capture the essence of this well crafted “home away from home.” These images were adjusted using CameraRaw in Lightroom. My goal for the...

The original of this photo was taken inside the Las Vegas Venetian! I love this place – they have done such an amazing job with the architecture that you actually feel as if you are actually touring Venice. The idea behind this creative work was to use the history brush and make a photograph look more like a painting. This was done a lot in the early stages of photography as the art of a photograph was rejected by society. Photographers started to take their photos and then alter them so that they looked more like paintings than a photograph. Applying creative Photoshop filters through...

Downtown Salt Lake City sits right next to a mountain and with the right vantage point you can get some great shots of the city. I wanted to get up high enough on the city so I could look out and see the lights! It was really neat to be able to see all of that… and if you’ve have ever been to Salt Lake City, then you know about the smog condition they have. Well… even at night you can see the smog weigh in on the city! After having taken some night photos of the city, I went down by the Capitol Building to get some interesting shots! Here are some of my favorite that I...

A few weeks ago, I was in Boise and went to the Old Idaho State Penitentiary to see what I could photograph! They have done a nice job of restoring this facility into a museum but it can still give you the creeps. Looking into the solitary confinement cells and seeing the writing on the wall (literally) was enough to set your imagination wild! There was a dim light that would come down through the ceiling that would light up the hole in the ground, or in other words, the bathroom. To visit such a place and to think that was “home” to many people. I was required to sign an...

I loved going to Virginia City, MT. There was so much to photograph that it was so overwhelming! I think it’s going to be one of my new regular places to visit time and time again so that I can take in all I can of Virginia City! Not to mention that some of the guides for the Ghost Town were some of the most friendly people in accommodating the group we took up there! It was just a blast! Check out some of photos below. A lot of them are HDRs and some of the are some nice single shots! ...

The Venetian in Las Vegas, NV What a gorgeous place to see in Vegas… Especially if you want to see Venice but it doesn’t seem like it will work out this year! The Venetian was built after him and his wife traveled to Venice for their Anniversary. His wife fell in love with Venice and during this same time, the owner needed to rebuild his Casino and Hotel and he decided to bring Venice back home. The Venetian is layered with nearly 20 football fields of imported Italian tile and Gondolas with Gondoliers all from Italy to be found in the canals around the hotel! This place...

HDR Photomatix Pro Plus This was honestly the place to go for some sweet HDR photos! What I love about this place that there is so much detail to take in and capture and with HDR in mind, it was truly the best way to capture the best of everything inside. I went in the middle of the day which was perfect because the sun was coming in through sky-lights at the top which lit up everything nicely inside. Everyone asks me… How did you get it without any people in there? And all I can say is… “Wait.” There was this massive asian group that came through and they love to...

Welcome to Las Vegas! This photo/effect was done all in camera one night while I was brave enough to go down to the famous “Welcome to Las Vegas!” I can’t begin to describe how many drunk people were willing to pose for me but confused at the same time as to what was going on! Either way, After several attempts, this is my best and favorite shot! No editing has been done in the making of this photo. What do you...

When I was able to get in and take some shots, the lights were very low, but I loved the effect it gave on the front of this. The light you see on this is actually reflecting off of another source which gives it this very subtle look. I thought it turned out pretty well.Editing:I used camera raw to adjust the lighting and color balance. I enhanced the colors just...
