HDR Sunsets
Here Boise, Idaho – I have found a new place to photograph that has become rather majestic during sunset hour. This is the New York Canal that weaves it’s way around the city. If it weren’t for “canal” status, I would jump in with my inner-tube and have you pick me up down the way. I took a few different shots of these bridge supports. It just goes to show how the same subject can look so different with a change in perspective and composition. I took HDRs (High Dynamic Range) of this scene because I wanted to capture the beauty and detail of the sky, but...

In the first part of May 2013 – I took a trip down to Fortaleza, Brazil. I spent 8 days there and I had the best time of my life as I was able to visit with old friends and tour new places. I served a LDS mission there from August 2006 – 2008 and I just fell in love with the people and the country and after nearly 5 years of waiting, I was able to to return and remind myself why it is I love that place so much. While I was there I spent most of my time visiting tourist locations and below are some panorama photos I took using my iPhone 5. I didn’t take many photos because I...
Read MorePanorama Photo Duel
This week at ImprovePhotography.com – the Weekly Photo Duel challenge was Panoramas. Panoramas can be a lot of fun when you have something interesting to photograph. From Macros to Majestic Landscapes… Panoramas really help tell the whole story. I wanted to do vertical panoramas to help with the story I wanted to tell. So I went to downtown Boise to capture some of the urban city life around sunset. The biggest challenge with doing a vertical panorama in a downtown area like this is the lens distortion became a bit much. By the time the pano was done stitching together some of the...

This week’s photo duel at ImprovePhotography.com is Landscape. Which landscape can be a lot of fun – but it takes a certain amount of creativity in between Winter and Spring. I have never heard anyone say how much they love this time of year… but here are some before/after shots that I took for this week. They required a lot of Photoshop because I didn’t want to cop out do a black/white photo. As you look at these photos – It is my hope that you can come to appreciate not only the photographic talent but the artistic side of taking a photo like this and turning...

Read MoreThe Venetian – Las Vegas 2012
If ever you find yourself in Las Vegas but wish you were in Venice… then head on over to The Venetian! It’s an incredible place and probably one of my favorite Hotel/Casinos on the strip. Last year – I learned all about how the Venetian came to be. I woke up at 5am to head down to take these photos because there wouldn’t be a heard of people in my shots. Using the new Nikon D800 and a 14-24mm lens, I was finally able to capture the essence of this well crafted “home away from home.” These images were adjusted using CameraRaw in Lightroom. My goal for the...

My sixth visit to Bannack Ghost Town was something to remember. It was also my last visit for a while.Every time I go, I try to focus on something new and different. This time it was portraits and it was my goal to help the students better understand how lighting and off-camera flash works when taking portraits. While these aren’t the best portraits you have seen – but they are some of my favorites! Tell me what you think! ...
Read MoreThe Bridges at the Bay Area
This is my final post from the San Francisco Area! I kind of waited for the best for last because I loved the Golden Gate Bridge and all the photos I was able to get. It was one of those things you save the best for last, but can’t wait any longer for it to be the last so you just go anyways – yeah – that was how it was with this timeless classic! I was with Zach Cooper and Andy Griffin when we ended up crossing the bridge on accident because we missed the quick exit that would take us down below on San Francisco side… but instead we found a lookout point from up...

But I like it. Downtown San Francisco The Dock. On a pier. It’s nice. ...
Read MoreSan Francisco Cable Cars
It was told it was a no brainer when it came to riding the Cable Cars in San Francisco! So we bought a two-way ticket and had a great ride across town. I tried to take some photos a long the way… and I will admit that not many of them turned out exactly as I would have liked. However, there were a few that some how seemed to turn out in the camera! The one set of photos that would have made this series complete would have been the Cable Car Museum. It still functions as the heart of what makes the cars run through town but when we went to visit, there was no parking anywhere to be found...
